What is Stomatitis?
Stomatitis is a condition with an inflamed and sore mouth. It may occur anywhere in the mouth including gums, tongue, lips, inside of the cheek, etc. It causes difficulty in eating and talking. There are two types of stomatitis namely canker sore and cold sore.
Causes:
- Weakened immune system
- Stress
- Deficiency in vitamin B-12, folic acid, iron, and/or zinc
- Candida albicans infection
- Injuries in mouth
- Clogged nasal passages
- Allergic reactions
- Nutritional deficiencies
- Burns caused by hot food and drink
- Bacterial Infection
- Smoking or chewing tobacco
- Viral infection: herpes
Symptoms:
- Pain in the infected area
- May be accompanied by flu-like symptoms
- Swelling
- Burning feeling in the infected area
- Difficulty in eating and/or talking
Home Remedies:
- Consume cow’s curd with a banana twice a day.
- Grind coriander to powder form and mix some soda to it. Apply in the infected area.
- Consume a diet with enough vitamin B. Foods with vitamin B include bell peppers, spinach, calf’s liver, broccoli, whole grains, etc.
- Consume enough red meat, poultry, and fish.
- Mix equal amounts of tomato juice and water. Gargle 4-5 times a day.
- Grind the bark of gooseberry roots in powder form and mix with honey. Apply 3-5 times a day in the affected area.
- Chew 4-5 jasmine flower leaves in the morning and evening.
- Chew 4-5 leaves of holy basil leaves and swallow with water.
- Consume 1 teaspoon of gooseberry powder with warm water before bed.
